The Casual Runner

The Starting Line – This Is How It All Begins

We here at are fascinated to hear the stories of the first miles run by Casual Runners, and we will be sharing those stories in the weeks and months ahead. Before we do, we thought it was appropriate to share the story of’s own first mile so our Casual Runners can know where this all began.

A few months ago, I was chatting with my good friend and fellow Casual Runner, Nick. We were sharing and comparing Casual Running stories. We have never trained or run a race together, so there was no overlap between our race histories, but we were intrigued that we shared many similar experiences and perspectives to running and racing. We soon turned to discussing how, despite the many groups and websites, there was not a forum focused truly on the casual running experience. Nick suggested that I start writing about my experiences and sharing them with other Casual Runners. Running is always more fun with a buddy, so I told Nick that I would only begin this Casual Running endeavor if he would embark on it with me. And, in that moment, was born.

One thing that you should know is that there is no “cool kids table” at We welcome Casual Runners of all types and ability levels. Our content is equally geared toward the life-long runner who starts every race in Corral A, the person who refuses to give up even as the grim sweeper or balloon lady approaches, and every Casual Runner of every ability level in between. Along with this, we want to hear from you, learn from you, and be inspired by your stories and experiences as every Casual Runner has unique and exciting experiences and perspectives to share.

I leave you with this. Walt Disney has always been a personal hero of mine, and one of his famous sayings is that “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” Well, we Casual Runners started doing, and we have now run our first mile. We have many fun and exciting miles to come, and we are excited to have you all along for the run.

Enjoy the freedom of going wherever your feet, imagination, & determination take you!
