WDW 10K – Highlights

runDisney’s 2018 Walt Disney World 10K presented by Cigna

January 5, 2018
Walt Disney World Resort, Florida

Over the years we have brought you loads of coverage for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (just scroll to the bottom of this article and check it out, but don’t forget to come back). As you can see there’s plenty of coverage and the courses really haven’t changed, so this year I figured it was time to do something different. Thus, I bring you the Highlights from all the races!

Fitness Expo

For all expo coverage make sure you checkout yesterday’s article of the Walt Disney World 5K Highlights.

Changes to the Race

At the end of the race instead of heading to the right of Spaceship Earth to exit the park we stayed to the left and went all the way around Spaceship Earth before making a left to exit the park.

Costumes

Helene ran as Cinderella and Ashley and I ran as Anastasia and Drizella (the stepsisters).  After being so cold the day before we decided to add extra layers that we hadn’t originally planned on.

Ashley wore a long sleeve t-shirt underneath a lime green tech shirt.  Overtop the long sleeves she wore a teal tank top with teal and lime ribbon sleeves, and teal gloves.  On the bottom she wore black leggings, lime green compression socks, and a lime and teal sparkle skirt.  A giant teal bow made her outfit complete.

I wore a long sleeve t-shirt underneath a hot pink tech shirt.  Overtop the long sleeves I wore a purple tank top with purple and hot pink ribbon sleeves, and pink gloves.  On the bottom I wore black leggings, and a purple and hot pink sparkle skirt.  A gold foam tiara glued to a purple sweaty band completed by look.

Helene wore two long sleeve t-shirts underneath her long sleeve white tech shirt.  Over top of that she wore a brown tank top and light blue compression sleeves.  On the bottom she wore black leggings and a brown sparkle skirt.  She finished her look with a white apron with a blue patch and a white handkerchief on her head.

We ran this race with some of our favorite Casual Runners, Laura and Jason, who dressed as Cruise Ship Minnie and Mickey.

Mile Markers

Mile 1 – Belle, Mile 2 – Snow White and Prince Charming, Mile 3 – Bambi and Thumper, Mile 4 – Ariel, Mile 5 – Merida, and Mile 6 – Sorcerer Mickey.

Characters on Course

The first character on course was Meeko from Pocahontas right after Mile 1.  A statue Percy and Flit were also in the background.  Next stop shortly before Mile 2 was Princess Atta and Flik from Bugs Life.  Just before Mile 3 was the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves disguised as the Hag.

Characters would soon be upon us again as we entered Epcot. However, before entering Epcot there was a quick photo op with the stilt walkers. In Norway you could stop for the Vikings again.   In Germany you could get a photo with Rapunzel, in Italy with Pinocchio, and in France Marie.

Out on the Boardwalk you could grab a pic once again with Vacation Genie in front of ESPN Grill.  Before leaving Epcot to head to the finish line there were more stilt walkers to see.

Once again Pluto, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, Mickey, and Dopey were at the start and end of the race for photo ops.  We took full advantage of this after the race!

Swag

The shirt for this race was a navy gender specific tech long sleeve tee.  It featured Mikey and his  girl Minnie.

The medal was Mickey and Minnie  on a red background with a glittery 10K embossed on it.  The ribbon was red with white polka dots.  So cute!

Keep checking back for the highlights from the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and Full Marathon  next week.  In the meantime check out all of our Walt Disney World Marathon Coverage from previous years and yesterday’s Walt Disney World 5K Highlights.
