The Casual Runner

December Mailbag

We hope you and your families all had a wonderful and memorable Christmas season!

We are all turning our attention to the coming new year as 2016 quickly winds down, and boy did we end 2016 in a big way with one of our busiest months ever at Casual Runner. Lets take a moment to look back on this past month as we turn things over to you, our readers, and open up the Casual Runner Mailbag!

Cigna Training Tips

Our new partnership with Cigna is providing us with the opportunity to share new and greater insights and information to the Casual Running community.  We kicked this off by sharing some new Training Tips and ways to prevent injuries.

Meghan from New Jersey wrote in:

“It is like you knew I have been on the phone all morning scheduling (re-scheduling) appointments to get my hip looked at! Thankfully my foam roller just showed up!”

Oh No! We hope its nothing serious and you’ll be back up and running soon. Good luck with the foam roller!

Jenny from Maryland shared this:

“I’m pretty confident that lack of strength training is how I ended up on 2 weeks of prescription NSAIDs a year ago because my hip hurt so bad I could barely walk. I’ve always been great about stretching, but that strength training is still, well, non-existent….”

Cigna also reached out to us after we published our first article:

“Thank you for sharing these tips! We hope everyone has a safe and healthy training. See you at #WDWMarathon!”

Thank you again for your help. We cannot wait to see you at the 2017 Walt Disney World Marathon as it means we’ll all be in Walt Disney World again!

Be sure to stay tuned in the coming months for many more great features thanks to Cigna’s help.

Inspirational Movie for Casual Athletes

In December we were given the opportunity to get a sneak peak of Tri, the first full length narrative film about triathlons. Many readers liked our movie review, and we even heard from the film’s production team following our movie review:

“Thank you for taking the time to review our film! We are truly grateful for your support of #TRImovie!”

Celebrating A Personal Milestone

This month Mike celebrated his 5th runnerversary with our readers. Congratulations Mike: five years ago you got up off the couch and started your own Casual Running adventure. Many of our readers sent along personal notes to Mike, and here are 2 that we can share with you:

“So Proud of you Mike!!”

Thank you Leann! Mike appreciates your support and encouragement, as well as the support of all of the Casual Runners out there. And, of course, Candace weighed in:

“I’m guessing we should celebrate with a run ‍♀ even though I’m more excited for those celebratory drinks . Here’s to a lifetime of running together .”

Just like Casual Running, we all have our priorities!

Run the City!

We had the pleasure of sharing Jacob’s story of running the TCS New York City Marathon, one of the world’s premier marathons. Many of you reached out to say how Jacob’s story peaked your interest in running this iconic event.

Jennifer said:

“I don’t really have any desire to run a marathon, but you made me want to run this race! Thanks for your review!”

Native New Yorker Tracy had this to say:

“As a born and bred New Yorker, I’ve always kept the NYC Marathon in the back of my mind as a “someday” race. You did a great job capturing the spirit of the marathon, and I am definitely inspired to run it – one day!”

Well, that is going to have to do it for this installment of the Casual Runner mailbag. We have a great lineup of articles coming your way in 2017, so be sure to stay tuned, and, don’t worry, we will be back next month with another edition of the Casual Runner Mailbag, so send us those emails, comments, Tweets, and shoutouts, and you too can be featured!
