The Casual Runner

Best Drinks: 2016 Epcot Food & Wine Festival

Casual Runners know that while running is a part of our lives, it is not our entire lives. Better yet, as Casual Running allows us to be healthier and live more active lifestyles, it allows us to experience new and wonderful adventures. In this special series, we will look at fun Casual Adventurers that our Team takes on when we are away from our training, even if its only for a day or two!  Check out other installments in this series by clicking here.

The Casual Runner team will be heading to Walt Disney World the first weekend of November for the 2016 runDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. EVERY FRIDAY Leading up to this we will be bringing you our favorite dishes and drinks from Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival.

As you know, the members of Team Casual Runner are big fans of Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival (and all of its assorted fun and frivolity). For this Casual Adventurer series we decided to call in some backup and enlisted the help of our good friends Laura and Jason from Disney Good Eats.

Make sure you check out our Must Dos at Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival 2016.

Candace, Tracy, Jennifer, Jake, Laura, Jason, and Mike all took on the tough challenge of sampling their way around the various kiosks located in World Showcase, and they all had some very opinionated opinions about the various Festival offerings. So, without further ado we bring you the best drinks of the 2016 Food and Wine Festival.

If you want more insider information on all that is fit to eat & sip at all the various Disney theme parks, be sure to check out Disney Good Eats by following them on InstagramTwitter.

Laura: “Basically what is there not to love about the Coconut Rum Dole Whip?  I mean Dole Whip ice cream is amazing on its own, then throw some rum on it?!?! Outstanding!  It’s so dang tasty they even have it at the Flower and Garden Festival in the spring.”

Mike put it in his top 5, adding: “I am going to lose my Disney fan card for this one, but I have never been a big fan of the Dole Whip.  However, my pineapple aversions aside, this drink proves one of life’s great truths: everything is made better with a healthy serving of coconut rum.”

The Drink: Kronebourg Blanc 1664 Pale Lager – $4.25
Kiosk:  France
Notable: Tracy’s Pick for Best in Show

Being the beer connoisseur of the group, leave it Tracy to put beer as her favorite drink and described it thusly: “Super tasty and flavorful!”

Insider Festival Tip: Tracy suggests getting beer samplers wherever possible because it’s a great way to sample a few delicious brews.

The Drink: La Passions Martini Slush: Vodka, Grey Goose Le Citron Vodka, Cranberry and Passion Fruit Juice – $10.75

Candace: “I love the martini slushes France has throughout the years, so whenever they have a special one during Food and Wine Festival it is a must try for me.  This drink did not disappoint! It is not too overwhelmingly sweet, which is a bonus.  In the Florida heat it is nice to enjoy a frozen drink while strolling around World Showcase.

Laura ranked this her second favorite drink.

The Drink: Spiked Chai Latte: iced, frozen or hot Chai tea Latte blended with Chai spices, creamy Vanilla and Baileys Irish Cream or Grey Goose Vodka – $8.49
Kiosk: Joffreys Coffeey and Tea: Coffee Carts – The American Adventure
Notable: Jennifer’s & Jake’s Pick for Best in Show

Jennifer: “I like the chai because its warm and cozy and feels like something I would drink while snuggling in front of a fire.”

Jake: “The chai with Bailey’s is possibly the most delicious drink I’ve had in my entire life.

Honorable Mentions, because you can never have too many tasty beverages to sample: Joffrey’s drink carts are definitely a must stop for delicious drinks this year! Candace loved the Joffrey’s Kahlua-tini Coffee, putting it in her top 5. Jason placed Joffrey’s Frozen Strawberry-Lemon Sunset in his top picks.

Jake: “Its like an alcoholic Slurpee… ALCOHOLILC SLURPEE!

Jennifer agrees with the brown elephant being in her top picksas well: “It’s cool and refreshing and gives me an extra jolt of energy when the heat of Epcot is making me weary.”

The Drink: Twining Pumpkin Chai Tea Frozen Cocktail with Caramel Vodka – $9.50
Kiosk: Ireland
Notable: Jason’s Pick for Best in Show

Jason: “My drink was like Thanksgiving in a cup!  I love pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin bread… I think you get the picture!  I was worried for two reasons: 1. Overuse of pumpkin seasoning can be bad, very bad; and 2. I don’t drink tea, in fact, I cannot stand it.  I’m not particularly familiar with chai though and I just cannot resist most things pumpkin, so I gave it a chance.  And am I glad I did?! It was the perfect blend and I WILL be getting it again!  Well worth the coupon** I used for it!”

Insider Festival Tip: The coupon Jason is referring to is a booklet of coupons referred to as the Tasting Sampler that can be purchased at the Food and Wine Festival Center, both Bridge Kiosk locations, Canada Festival Emporium, and the Festival Boutique Kiosk.  You can either purchase 8 vouchers (coupons) for $59 plus tax or 16 vouchers for $109 plus tax.  The 16 voucher pack is the better deal as each voucher is worth around $7.25.  So it is best to use these coupons to pay for items that cost over $7.25.  Disney DOES charge tax when you buy these vouchers.  In contrast, the food and drink item prices at booths are the tax-included prices. So, when you are doing the math to see if this is a good deal for you, make sure you take note of this. Essentially, if you are using your vouchers for items that cost $7.25 or more and pay cash for everything else, it is a good deal!

These vouchers do not have to be used on the day of purchase and can be used on both food and beverages. There are a few items that the vouchers cannot be used on, so make sure to read the fine print!  Also with your purchase you receive a collectible Food and Wine Festival pin.  There is no passholder discount available for this purchase.
