A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
To say that we brought you a lot of coverage of runDisney’s Inaugural Star Wars Dark Side Challenge Weekend would be an understatement. We even covered all of the hits and misses of this new race weekend. Not surprisingly, our readers had a lot to say. We can’t get to all of the comments, but here is a sampling of what we heard:
“That was a really nice recap of the #StarWarsHalf Dark side weekend. I’m with you on the Hits vs Miss.”
Sarah further weighed-in our our suggestions to improve this event, especially with dealing with those horrible event merchandise fiascos:
“runDisney Pre-Order Race merch (especially inaugural swag) is a really fantastic idea! #runDisney – hear that??”
Thanks Sarah! It would be great if runDisney would implement some simple steps to help make the entire race weekend experience more enjoyable. If any of our readers have other ideas for improving any races, we’ll gladly help you share them with race directors.
Amy contacted us before the event via Google+ following our Event & Course Previews:
“Can’t wait! I’m actually running all 3 races and will be completing the Kessel Run Challenge! It WILL be an epic weekend! Now to finish up the costumes!”
That’s awesome Amy! We hope the Force was with you for the races, or, well, since it was the Dark Side Challenge, perhaps you preferred to give into the Dark Side? Either way, let us know how everything went for you and please send us some pics of your finished running costumes.
Time to take the plunge?
Allyn wrote to us about taking the plunge to transition from running to triathlons:
“I’ve been thinking about triathlons (sprint triathlons – the Iron Man kind of thing is way too much for me) for a couple of years now. Maybe this will be the year I do it. I’ve never really been into distance swimming or lap swimming but I realize that it is really good cardiovascular exercise, and that combining running and swimming and biking might be a really good way of keeping in shape. Besides which, I think it would be cool to actually do a triathlon. I’ll be very interested in following your progress.”
Yes, the members of our Team have been seriously considering taking the plunge and trying our hands at triathlons (well, some of us more than others that is…). But it looks like Allyn is going to beat us to it. Good luck to you Allyn, and let us know how it goes!
We don’t just cover Eastern and Midwestern races, we are trying to run the whole country! Oh wait, that did not come out right…you know what we meant.
Catherine, shared her thoughts after reading Candace’s review of the Rock N Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon:
“My first (and only) half marathon was the Chicago Rock n’ Roll Half and I fell in love with the RnR series! It’s a GREAT first half marathon experience, I’m excited for you!!!”
Thanks Catherine! We plan on covering more Rock N Roll Series events this year, be on the look out for Casual Runner Team Members in the fields in Chicago and Philadelphia.
“Oh cool, my hometown! Well sort of (San Diego). It really is a fast course. I ran the half marathon there in high school and gained liked half an hour over my previous time.Treat yourself to a California burrito carne asada with french fries at any local Berto’s afterwards.”
Thanks Raphael, we may have to check it our as part of the Team will once again be heading out west for this year’s Dumbo Double Dare.
Our readers are starting to plan their own summer vacations and looking at some of our Travel Stories for inspiration and ideas.
“Splash Mountain is, hands down, our fave. We’ve been to both parks, but Disneyland seems so small and unexciting compared to Disney World in Florida. We just got back from a week at Disney World. Have a great time when you go!”
Christian had this to say about Mike’s travels to Hilton Head, South Carolina for summer vacation, especially the sunsets:
“Awesome ! For me it reminds me of a day spent at the beach with my kids and this is what would be left right behind us as we drove away sun soaked and full of smiles! GREAT!!”
Both of these readers certainly demonstrate the passion and excitement for travel that we love!
