Greetings Casual Runners! What a great month it has been here at Casual Runner! The ranks of Casual Runners continue to grow as we are seeing more visits to our website, our social media accounts, and views on our YouTube channel than ever before! We are thrilled that so many of you are responding in such big ways.
This month, we launched our Pinterest page, so please be sure to check it out. We have something really fun coming your way tomorrow, so, today we are turning our attention to our monthly edition of the Casual Runner Mailbag! We received more reader mail this month than ever before (people are finding their way to us via our contact page and the free plug party, both of which appear at the top and bottom, respectively, of every article we feature). While we cannot get to every piece of mail we received this month, we’ll do our best to discuss as many of your comments and messages that we can:
Winter Dreams of Warm Weather Vacations.
Gina Marie commented on our Top 10 Cruise Vacation Tips:
“My husband and I love Disney cruises. We’ll be leaving on the Fantasy on March for our 5th cruise AND we don’t have kids under 18. We really love the shows, food, and adult programs.”
We are jealous of you and your family. Wish we were coming with you. Before you sail, be sure to also check out our Top 10 Tips on taking Disney Cruise Line Vacations and Mike’s and Jennifer’s stories on running the Castaway Cay 5k and Parks to Paradise Challenge. Bon voyage!
Mrs. Henry clicked on Mike’s article informing our readers of the recent policy changes Walt Disney World made in response to the travel concerns raised by the Zika virus, and shared this via our Google+ page:
“Thank you for the information as my son and I are going within the next two months.”
Every day more information comes out regarding what steps are being taken to keep people safe and to give them piece of mind as they travel, and every person will make their own decisions with respect to travel. As many Casual Runners will be making their way to Walt Disney World for magical runcations and family vacations over the next few months,we want to stress, that, given that there are no travel warnings in place for Florida, the fact that Disney is willing to take these steps to ensure that their guests are 100% comfortable in their travel and vacation decisions is remarkable. It is the kind of corporate responsibility and concern for guests that should be commended and followed. Well done Disney.
Love Is In The Air
Our readers responded in a big way to our series of Valentines Day articles where our Team shared some relationship advice for active couples (you can check them out: Jennifer & Jake’s story about how running impacted their relationship; Mike’s tips for dating a runner; and Candace’s list of the Top 10 Most Romantic Spots in Walt Disney World). One reader, Sheri, had this to say:
Thanks Sheri! Sheri also told us that members of her family enjoy trail walking and running. While members of our Team do enjoy running trails to mix it up, we have not yet run any trail races…but perhaps that is something we can look at adding to our 2016 race calendar?
As to Candace’s list of the Top 10 Most Romantic Spots in Walt Disney World, several of our readers shared their own ideas, including Kelley from Ohio, who had this to say:
“Late dinner at California grill by the window for fireworks show. Haunted mansion while pretending to be scared so you can snuggle up. Walking along the beach at Coronado with fairy lights surrounding, catching Hollywood Studios fireworks. Drinking around the world, trying new things together. Enjoying a sinfully good dinner at Jiko then getting to look across the Savannah at all the peaceful animals. Those are the top 5 for me so far.”
Thanks to Kelley and every one else who shared their ideas, as the CR Team has some more runDisney races on the 2016 race calendar, I am sure Jennifer and Jake, and Mike and Candace, respectively, will love to check out your ideas!
A Little Something for Everybody
We heard from Kerri in the United Kingdom, who checked out some of our older articles, including Mike’s reviews of the Akron Half Marathon. Kerri had this to say:
“We’re a group of volunteers and starting a new [race event] in our community. Your site offered us with valuable information to work on.”
That is great to hear Kerri, we are glad our stories of runners’ race experience can help you in building a runner-focused event. We wish you and your team the best of luck in planning for your new event, and the Akron Marathon is a great event to model your efforts on as they really do a great job. Please keep in touch and let us know how everything develops. We’d love to hop across the pond and check out some events in the UK, and you may give us the excuse to do so (though we have a feeling the members of the CR Team will be fighting over who gets that assignment).
We also heard from Omar who found us while looking for information on Canton’s Football Hall of Fame Half Marathon, which he is looking to run.
“Great post. Very helpful 🙂 … I was looking for more information [on this race]. Thank you.”
Thanks Omar! Canton put on a great show for us last year and we are excited to see what they can do this year. Best of luck to you, be sure to let us know how the race goes for you.
February is the Month for Princesses
February means the runDisney Princess Half Marathon, Enchanted 10k, and Glass Slipper Challenge in Walt Disney World, and plenty of aspiring princesses found their way to Casual Runner seeking out tips and hints for conquering this magical race. One princess, Deanna, found us while researching her first Princess Half Marathon, and was glad that she did. She added this along with her other comments:
“Saved as a favorite, I love your website!”
Thanks Deanna – we hope you had a great time running those magical miles in Walt Disney World. Please let us know how you did, and of course, show off your bling!
Improvements Coming to Casual Runner.
Margery was so excited after reading Candace’s Review of the 2016 runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon, she wrote to us…Twice! (But that was a little bit of our fault)…
“Wow that was odd. I just wrote an extremely long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyhow, just wanted to say excellent blog!”
Margery, we are so sorry for that. We forwarded it along to Nick to look into the problem, and he promised to do some extra speed work this week as penance (and we are going to hold him to it!). But thank you for reading our articles and for following up with your message, we hope to keep delivering articles that you will enjoy and making sure your comments are heard!
But this is also a good opportunity to leave you with a little teaser. We are constantly working to improve Casual Runner, and the whole team has been working hard behind-the-scenes to build in some new exciting features and upgrades. You may have noticed some small changes already, but stay tuned as we are excited to bring these to features you in the coming months. In the mean time, we will be rolling out other additions that the Team is creating (such as adding our new Pinterest page!). We know you are all going to love them!
Well, that is going to do it for our latest installment of the Casual Runner Mailbag. If we did not get to your messages this month, don’t worry, we will be back next month with another edition of the Casual Runner Mailbag.
If you want to reach out to us, have any questions to ask, or just want to say hi to us, the free plug party at the end of this and every article will tell you how to do so! Thanks again everyone, and best of luck to you on your Casual Running adventures, we will see you out on the running trails.
