Greetings Casual Runners!

Winter will NOT slow us down!

What an amazing month it has been here at Casual Runner. The CR Team will NOT be hibernating this winter, as we have been hitting the road to log our training miles, run some great races, and bring you all new and exciting articles each week.

On a personal note, it is amazing to see just how much our readership has grown in the short time that Casual Runner has been around. For that, and for our growing ranks of loyal readers and Casual Runners, we are both appreciative and grateful. The entire Casual Runner Team is doing this for you, and we are happy to continue to do so as long as you want us to, so thank you all!

This would be a nice time to reach into the old Casual Runner Mailbag and see what you, our readers and fellow Casual Runners, had to say…

Magical Miles for Everyone!

Before Mike & Candace set out to represent Team Casual Runner at the 2016 runDisney Goofy Challenge by running Donald Ducks’ Walt Disney World Half Marathon and Mickey Mouse’s Walt Disney World Marathon, we received this note from Walt Disney World (‏@WDWToday) via our Twitter Account:

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is a blingfest!

“@Casual_Runner Good luck this weekend! We’ll be chEARing you on during every magical mile!”

And they certainly were! The course support was great this year, and we experienced some fun new elements to the Marathon course. You can relive some of the excitement with our on-course videos from both the Half Marathon and the Marathon now on our YouTube channel.

Speaking of our YouTube channel, Victoria left us this comment on our Walt Disney World Marathon highlight video:

“This video was so great, I loved it! :)”

Thank you Victoria! If you all keep enjoying our videos, we will keep making them.

Stacy left us this note after reading Candace’s review of the Walt Disney World Marathon:

“Congrats on the PR! It sounds like you had a really great race. I ran the half (my first rD race….if you don’t count the 5k we walked a few days before) and I am totally hooked and planning to run Goofy next year. I’m a fellow Ohioan and I feel like we are at so many of the same events! One of these days we will meet! :)”

Thank you Stacy and congratulations on your first runDisney race weekend! We take it from your early commitment to the 2017 Goofy Challenge that you had a great time! We always like to meet fellow Casual Runners, and we are still putting together our 2016 race schedules, but you can take a look at our race calendar and please drop us a line if we are going to be toeing the line at the same race so we can say hi!

Even MORE Magic! Yes, please!

Knowing that the Team would be splitting our time between the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (Disney World) and Star Wars Weekend (Disneyland) events, Disneyland (@DisneylandToday) also reached out to us to send along their best wishes:

“Whether here or @WDWToday, we wish your whole team the best of luck. May the Force be with you!”

Thank you so much! The Force was certainly ever-present as Jennifer and Jake conquered the Rebel Challenge by running the 2016 Star Wars 10k and Star Wars Half Marathon in the Disneyland Resort. Oh and by the looks of things, they had a lot of fun doing so!

You can never doubt that Jake and Jennifer know how to have fun with race themes!

Dave Martin reached out to us via our Instagram account to thank us for our Star Wars coverage. He loved the reviews and pictures that Jennifer brought back from the Star Wars Half Marathon & Rebel Challenge at Disneyland. He told us:

“In love with this! I’m a huge enthusiast.”

Thanks Dave! While we appreciate Dave’s compliments, we made a point to include his comments in this mailbag in order to highlight one of the best parts about how the running industry evolved in recent years to include and highlight popular culture. Imbuing race events with heavy pop culture themes make for a more enjoyable and memorable experience, and it never gets old for Casual Runners who are young at heart.

More wine to go with my miles, please!

Does Jennifer know our audience or what? Casual Runners do love their adult beverages…all the better when they can combine them with fun race events. When she reviewed the Boordy Vineyard 5k (psst- there is a lot of tasty wine ibvolved in this race!), she peaked one reader’s interest. Jen from Maryland, had this to say:

“I may see you there this year….This seems like a must, and I can always do 5k.”

We asked her what motivated her more, the race itself or the wine, and she said…

“Hmmm…a theme to races I am willing to run?”

Yup that is what we thought!

Ride ALL the Rides

As you know, Casual Runners are not just about running, we like to have our fun in other ways too, hence our popular Casual Adventure Series.  When Candace and Mike shared how they tried to ride every ride in Walt Disney World in a single day, Staci Braun shared her thoughts on this very challenging of challenging challenges:

Ready to blast off aboard Space Mountain!

“Not possible but 1. Get there as early as possible 2. Make fast passes as soon as possible 3. Have a plan I rode many rides twice by using above tactics.”

Hi Staci – Your plan is definitely the way to go if you are hitting the parks, sleeping in costs you valuable ride time. The hardest part about the WDW46 challenge is all of the time you lose changing parks, especially if you do what we did and rely on resort transportation. Oh, and did we mention that they are building even more rides? So once Avatar, Toy Story, and Star Wars come on line, this already-difficult challenge will become that much more daunting.

Well, that is going to do it for our latest installment on the Casual Runner Mailbag. If you want to reach out to us, have any questions to ask, or just want to say hi to us, the free plug party at the end of this and every article will tell you how to do so!

The Casual Runner Team wants to hear from you.
