The Casual Runner

Guest Contributor Carly: I Want to Be a runDisney Princess

Note from the Casual Runner Team: Carly is a high school freshman who epitomizes what it means to be a Disney Princess who wants to trade in her glass slippers for a good pair of running shoes.  Carly is proof that Casual Runners come in all ages, types, and personalities.  All you have to do is have a dream and pursue it.  This is her story.  Currently, runDisney Policy requires that runners be at least 10 years old to participate in the Enchanted 10k, and at least 14 years old to run the Princess Half Marathon and Glass Slipper Challenge.  The family 5k events are open to anyone 5 years and older.

My name is Carly, and I want to runDisney!

My goal is to run the runDisney Princess Half Marathon, and I AM going to do it.

Where It All Began

My first thought of doing this occurred when I saw my friend Mike start running. He trained hard enough to run the runDisney Princess Half Marathon in Walt Disney World (Florida). When he came back he showed me his medal that he had gotten. My first thought was: “Man! How do I get one of those!?!?”

I Am a Casual Runner

I run when I have some free time. I play volleyball and I am going into my third year of being on the school volleyball team. I also play soccer and have been playing for about 11 years now. Between schoolwork and my sports, I like to get away from everything by running.

I Am a Princess (and A Not-So-Casual Disney Fan)

Not only do I like running, but I love Disney! So runDisney is a perfect combination of two of my favorite things. I grew up as a huge Disney addict because of my mom, so you can really blame her for getting me started down this path.  Show me anything Disney related, and I automatically fall in love. Being a Disney addict, I have been to Walt Disney World about 6 or 7 times already, and I cannot wait to go back! I have always gone with family and we have had tons of fun.

How I Am Going to Get There…I Will runDisney

To even be close to finishing a half marathon I have to train…a lot. I am going to start taking longer runs, and in October I’m running my first 10K. I have lots of workouts in mind that I’m going to start in the spring that will help me be able to run a half marathon. Before I can go on a runDisney runcation, I need to prove to my parents that I can run it. I’m also trying to get my mom to run it with me so it can be a mother/daughter trip!

I Will Be a RunDisney Princess

This is why this race is my dream and is going to be fun for me. Achieving this goal of finishing the runDisney Princess Half Marathon is really important to me. Not only am I getting out there and staying fit, but I am going to do something that I am going to enjoy. My motivation will be running across the finish line and feeling that magical moment of finishing…of accomplishing something great.

All you have to do is to have a goal or a dream, and remain focused and determined to see it through.

I am hoping that if I work hard enough I will be able to run it around my 16th birthday next year. That would by far be the best trip I would ever take to Disney. I definitely look forward to that day of running my first half marathon, to doing it in Walt Disney World, and to being an official runDisney Princess! Oh, and getting my own princess medal to show off!
